Please note this is a sample itinerary and is subject to change due to weather, trail conditions, closures etc.
We are hoping to fill up the days with as much running, hiking, exploration (and wine tasting) as possible! Check it out:
Thursday March 24th:
2:00-4:00pm: Runner check-in. Meet and greet in the lobby and get settled into your room. Eat a snack and hydrate for our first activity! *if you are flying in from out of state try to secure the earliest flight possible to leave time to get to the venue by 4pm.
4:00pm: First clinic on efficient hiking and trail running with trekking poles. If you have some, bring them to camp! We will have a few extra pairs to loan out.
4:30pm: EPIC hike to the top of the iconic Mesa overlooking Palisades. This hike is not for the faint of heart (or legs). There will be some scrambling, exposure and a lot of elevation gain but so oh so rewarding when you see the view from the top. This hike takes us through wild horse country so be on the lookout for the resident black stallions on the trail!
7:00pm: Official start of camp while being served our very first meal! Get ready to meet your fellow campers.
9:00pm: Recommended bedtime to get plenty of rest for a very active weekend ahead!
HYDRATE: We can’t stress this enough. Drink lots of water. Yes, you will have to pee more up here. It’s annoying for newbies but staying hydrated keeps your head and body happy at high altitude.
Friday, March 25th:
6am: Wake Up and grab a bite from the continental breakfast line up. Van leaves at 7am for our first session and trail run as a full team! Don’t forget your water pack or handhelds and a camera/phone.
7:15am: Warm-up at the trailhead and first group run. Go big or go home! This outing will take us to Colorado National Monument. We will be running amongst giants here: towering monoliths from historic ages through canyons and desert brush to the top of the overlook and back. Several distance options available and power hiking is par for the course! The goal: Working on pacing and intervals for steeper inclines and footwork for technical downhill terrain.
11am: Head back to the resort for full hot lunch and some downtime.
12-2pm: Free time! Relax, soak in a hot tub or heated pool, explore the town, read a book, take a nap….
2:00pm: Short presentation/drill session on “Trail Needs: Using traditional agility drills to become a better trail runner.” Then off for an hour run on flowy trails in Fruita, CO along the Colorado river. Afterwards, our first recovery session will be a cold water therapy soak in the river! Bring a towel, sandals and change of clothes to this one!
5pm: After everyone has showered and changed let’s explore the town! We will arrange wine tastings at several wineries and meaderies with time to stop to purchase local produce or honey
9pm: Lights out.
Saturday, March 26th:
6am: Wake Up and grab a bite from the continental breakfast line up. Van leaves at 7am for next adventure! Don’t forget your water pack or handhelds and a camera/phone.
7:15am: Warm-up at the Trailhead. We will be exploring the Palisades Rim trail with various distance options.
11am: Lunch and learn: Fueling for your trail and ultra running endeavors.
12-2pm: Free time!
2:30pm: PiYo on the lawn. This pilates/yoga inspired session is geared for runners to increase range of motion and mobility and techniques for post run recovery.
4:30pm: Winery run power hour! We will run OR ride to a handful of different wineries for more tastings.
7pm. More amazing food and inspiration from your fellow campers.
Sunday, March 27th:
Van leaves at 7am for next adventure! Don’t forget your water pack or handhelds and a camera/phone.
7:30am: 6 mile run/hike to an natural arch! Make sure to take plenty of pictures and soak in your last memories of the western Colorado landscapes and fun times with your new friends.
11:00am: Last meal, pack up. Camp review with coaches and goodbyes.
12:00pm: Time to head back home : (
Monday: Daydream of Colorado wine country, the friendships and all you learned!
