Who or what inspires you to run? If any. Fear of growing old and disabled. My competitive spirit, but also the inspiration I get from watching others accomplish things that seem impossible. My husband and children, obviously! If it weren’t for them understanding my love of running long distance and giving me the time to spend with myself, I wouldn’t be able to run as much as I do.

Tell us something really weird about you or your life. I’m severely allergic to something in wheat products since I was 5. Like I could die allergic, not celiac. I have been in the hospital more times than I can count going through anaphylactic shock because I couldn’t resist a slice of pizza. The weird thing is I don’t have a reaction if my body is in a state of calm like right before bed. Or when I am pregnant, I can eat anything I want when I’m pregnant. It sucks when I run trail races and everyone else is indulging in ramen, burritos and grilled cheese sandwiches and I’m here being all extra like, “Hey guys, I have sushi in an ice chest at the main aid station.”

What’s the best part about being on the team? Being on THIS team, I love sharing the victories and defeats because we have a lot to learn from each other. I love having a common thread where people totally understand when you have an emotional breakdown because you couldn’t get a run in one day. We all know it’s not the end of the world, but it’s nice to have a group who lets you cry and then cheers you on and motivates you to get the next run in with no judgment about it.

I don’t want to just tell them to reach for the stars, I want to show them how to reach for the stars.

I LOVE buying presents and have a ton of gifts all year round filling up closets and driving John nuts.
